International scientists or External students enrolled at foreign universities that would like to spend research time at Scuola Normale Superiore may apply for a Visiting position at our institution.

Visiting Scientists

International scientists that would like to spend research time at the Scuola Normale Superiore may apply for a Visiting position at any moment of the year.

Our two Faculties (Humanities and Sciences) and our Department od Political and Social Sciences offer various research Laboratories and constantly updated Libraries. 

Visits can vary from a few days to several weeks or months, lasting up to a year, and applications are processed monthly.

Financial support is not authomatically connected to the positions, but it depends on the availability of funds.

In principle, visits are intended as supported by the visitor’s home institution or by fellowships.

Visiting Students

External students enrolled at foreign universities may apply for a Visiting Student position at our institution, whose duration cannot last more than an academic year.

Although there is no deadline for this application, the processing of the procedure takes considerable time, and so we strongly advise you to apply at least two months before your planned arrival date.

Please remember that you will need to provide written agreement to be your Tutor from a member of the teaching staff of our institution.

Visiting students are admitted free of charge to courses, seminars, Libraries and facilities as well as internal students.
